Right now I’m in Hanover, NH with the special lady, and I thought it appropriate to feature Herbie Hancock on this week’s Music Monday, since we’ll be seeing him perform live on the 10th. With Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, no less.
Herbie’s music has spanned close to five decades, and he’s always been at the cutting edge of jazz. He’s collaborated with a diverse mix artists of a number of different genres, from Miles Davis to GrandMixer DST. But my favorite Herbie era would have to be the mid-1970s when he led The Headhunters (featured in the clip above), with Paul Jackson on bass and Mike Clark on drums.
Paul Jackson + Mike Clark = funkiest rhythm section of all time. Period.
Don’t believe me?
